Rich product experiences fail in the same place: the first paint. A viewer that needs eight megabytes before it shows anything is not an experience, it is a wait, and on a mid-range phone over a shared connection the shopper is gone before the model resolves.
The fix is ordering rather than reduction. A compressed still of the default configuration renders immediately and occupies the exact box the viewer will fill, so the layout never jumps. The interactive asset streams in behind it and swaps once ready. Shoppers who never rotate the piece are served a fast page; those who do lose nothing.
Beyond that it is unglamorous discipline — geometry budgets per product tier, texture atlases shared across a family, and a hard rule that no page ships an asset nobody measured.
None of this is visible when it works, which is precisely why it gets cut first. It is also the difference between a storefront that converts on a train and one that only converts on office broadband.
